Xobni, a few months later
is a tool which indexes your Outlook data, and maintains a sidebar on Outlook which allows you to find things. Sound too simple, doesn’t it? I’m sure that behind the scenes it is extremely clever, but using it really is that easy. I no longer groan in frustration when I need to look up an email I sent a year and a half ago – Xobni finds it in seconds.
So is there a down-side? If you shoved me up against a wall and put a gun to my head and demanded I criticised it, I’d have to say that it tries too hard. It’s just a little bit too helpful sometimes. If I want to schedule time with somebody or send them an email, I’m quite capable of doing that myself. And the graphs and charts are all very pretty, but ultimately useless and this space (about a quarter of the available real-estate, all told) could be better used for more important info, like conversations.
But that doesn’t stop me using it and appreciating it every day. Ten out of ten, fully Pembi-recommended! I can’t imagine managing my email without it. Now if only they would release a Thunderbird version, I’d happily dump Outlook once and for all.
