Hi-Def, Schmi-Def!

I’m getting SO sick of being invited to purchase amazing/astonishing/stunning/fantastic new “high definition” televisions. Almost all of them are (at most) 1280×768 resolution. So, a message to all manufacturers/retailers out there: stop trying to sell me oversize computer monitors! I’ve had that many pixels (or more) on my dinky little laptop screens for several years now. Don’t get me wrong, when you make all those dots small enough to fit into a 14″ screen, you get a pretty good picture. But when you spread them over an area more than four times the size (for a 28″ screen), you get pictures…. that are four times as bad. And nobody in their right mind is going to buy a 28″ Hi-Def TV, the starting post these days is 36″ or more – personally I have my eye on a nice 42″ Panasonic. But until 1080p becomes the going standard, and are produced in high enough volume to bring the prices down, I guess I’m stuck with my 26″ CRT set. Ah well. It still works.
