Awesome WordPress Plugin
WordPress is the Content Management System that runs this site, the code behind everything. It really is super stuff, letting me focus on the content while it works out how to serve everything up nicely to you. It’s helped along by little Plugins that do all sorts of useful things. There are thousands of them available, although I only use a handful. One feature of WP I’ve come to love is its ability to upgrade those plugins as newew versions are released – a two-click exercise and job done. Triffic!
Strangely enough, this is one really nice bit of functionality that’s been missing from WP itself. Upgrading has always been a manual process. Until now. Alex Günsche at http://www.zirona.com has released The Instant Upgrade for WordPress, and it’s instantly become my favourite plugin. Where previously I had to download the upgrade archive to my PC, then upload it to the server, take safe copies of everything, unpack, copy files around and hope like mad I’m in a technical-enough frame of mind to get it right, now…. I click the button. Before I can even get out the door for a sneaky fag, the job’s done.
Here’s a screen-cap of the first time I used it in anger. Click to view a full-size copy.

Awesomeness!
